Parish Council News
The Parish Council have agreed to give £500 of the money received from winning the Kent Village of the Year competition to the Wye & Brook India Trust to sponsor the education of deprived children in India.
The decision was made after a poll, held in the Post Office last year, showed this to be the most popular use for part of the money.
This particular trust was chosen as it could guarantee that the money would be used for what it is intended.
Further details will be given here as the project progresses.
Robber Jailed
37 year old Peter Baars from Charing has been jailed for 5 years following his involvement in an armed raid on Challock Sub Post Office and shop on May 20th 2005. In handing down the sentence the Judge said “the clearest message must go out to those who commit this type of offence.
Andrew Puxted from the Shop pointed out that contrary to general belief they do not keep large sums of money on the premises.
The shop was also targeted in 2003 and the four robbers were caught and sentenced to 4 years each.
